Canada Maximizes The Duration Of Interim Work Approval Letters For International Graduates

Canada has maximized the period of authenticity of interim work approval letters provided to international graduates in the nation waiting for a judgment on their work permit request.

Work approval letters will now be authentic for 180 days from the date of presenting a request, as opposed to the previous 120 days.

Interim Work Approval Letter

Interim work approval letters are documents provided by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to state that an international graduate can begin working before their work permit request gets a last judgment from Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

These documents are provided to international graduates, who can be employed full-time without a work permit while awaiting a judgment on their work permit request if they made an application for a work permit before the cessation of their study permit, given that they as well satisfy specific requirements when making an application. This permits graduates to start working before they get a judgment from Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on their work permit request.

Requirements International Graduates Have To Satisfy To Be Provided An Interim Work Letter

International graduates who desire to get employed before making an application for their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) are required to:

  • They handled an authentic study permit while presenting their work permit request.
  • Have concluded their course of study.
  • Have satisfied the conditions for being employed off-campus without a work permit.
  • They were a full-time student registered at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
  • They were in a post-secondary educational professional or skilled internship course for at least eight months.
  • They got a degree, diploma, or credential from their program.
  • They were within the permitted hours of work for full-time students in Canada.

Note: From 15 November 2022 to 30 April 2024, students could get employed more than the general provided 20 hours weekly restriction, with a credit to a temporary public policy executed by Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Candidates with an interim work approval letter can proceed to work in Canada even after exiting and coming back to the nation. However, several applicants will require an authentic temporary resident visa to do this. An interim work approval letter is different from a travel document.

If 180 days pass without judgment on an application, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) points out that if 180 days have passed without judgment on a request, candidates may apply for continued evidence of approval to get employed by Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This can be carried out by using the IRCC webpage.
